Pyschotherapy

Growing apart? I currently specialize in the following: Marital Therapy with highly distressed couples, with couples that have severe and persistent problems, with couples struggling through the impact of an affair and with couples facing the prospect of divorce; and Family Therapy with adults and their parents and with adult siblings.
Conflicts usually do not resolve themselves; marriage counseling will provide an opportunity to hear and understand your partner, to take in their way of seeing things in a new and different way and maybe develop tolerance or empathy about your differences that may not be possible if you try to do it alone.

This fall, barring a disaster, we'll celebrate 30 years of marriage, a chunk of time that has been part bliss, part hellscape, with lots of regular life thrown in. Perhaps bits of our therapists' wisdom sneaked past our cynicism and slipped into the corners of our relationship, flattening out some of the kinks.
Marriage Couples Counseling in NYC's areas of specialty include marriage counseling, couples counseling, family counseling, relationship counseling and therapy, pre-marital counseling issues and conflicts, couples sex therapy in the spirit of Kamasutra, relationship breakup advice and help with leaving abusive relationships.

In addition to my private practice, I have a part-time caseload at the West Bergen Center for Children and Youth in New Jersey, where I am responsible for individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as supervising masters-level students on-site.

To meet the examination requirements for licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist in New York State, you must pass the "Examination in Marital and Family Therapy" developed by the Association of Marital and Family Therapy Regulatory Boards (AMFTRB) and administered by Professional Testing Corporation (PTC).

If your initial license in Marriage and Family Therapy was issued by a jurisdiction that does not have significantly comparable licensure requirements to New York State, you will need to submit all of the documentation required of an applicant for initial licensure so that the Education Department can determine whether your personal qualifications are substantially similar to New York State's licensure requirements.
Problems can be a tricky pitfall in therapy: We tend to understand a pre-condition of therapy as having problems.” Sometimes that's clear (we fight a lot, we deeply disagree about fundamental matters) and sometimes there's not much wrong”-no problems, per se-and yet one or both participants in the relationship want more.
In addition to the professional education requirement, every applicant for Marriage and Family Therapy licensure or a limited permit must complete divorce therapy coursework or training in the identification and reporting of child abuse in accordance with Section 6507(3)(a) of the Education Law.
